Thanks for the great feedback on my efforts to spread the word about Trillium through Generosity.com. It’s been shared on Facebook close to 400 times (!) in just a few days, and the Generosity folks say that’s one of the best ways to raise a lot of support. So if you haven’t shared it yet here’s the link:
Donations and commitments have surpassed $1.5 million overall toward our construction campaign goal of $2.3 million. This is a very encouraging start and we’re closing in on it. If we can get to the goal by September we could start the actual construction this year!
Here’s a story that touchingly reinforced for me why our Central U.P. community needs Trillium House:
I was visiting with Hospice of the Eastern U.P. a little while back. Tracey, the Exec. Dir. is a huge help to us and I was shadowing her for the day. That gave me the chance to talk with a couple staying at their house. The Mom was the patient, and her husband and daughter were with her. First, their room (and I mean it was “their” room) was decorated with the grandkid’s crayon drawings, cards from all over the country, favorite quilts on the bed and chairs, and family pictures in prominent places. Mom told me she’d been there about a month and it was “now my home. I feel like a rock star with all the people visiting and the calls”. Her husband was relaxed and comfortable on the couch. “They’ve kind of adopted me too,” he said, noting he stayed most nights with her. Their daughter was glad to talk when I explained we’re building a hospice house in our community too. “Mom’s coming here is such a godsend for all of us. She’s happy, my father can be with her and still get some sleep and time for himself. For me, I was using up my time off and not being with my kids and husband. This is perfect because we know Mom is happy and well-taken care of and we can come be with her anytime. There’s time to just talk and be together.” I just felt the comfort and peace of mind in all of them – and left the room with a big smile on my face.
That’s our vision of caring for our friends, neighbors and loved ones at Trillium. Living life to the fullest and with dignity until the end.
